Apreciado Ministro,
La Dirigencia del Centro de
Acción Internacional, localizado en la ciudad de Nueva York y fundado por
el ex Procurador General de los Estados Unidos Ramsey Clark, desea expresar
nuestras felicitaciones al Gobierno de Venezuela por la reciente propuesta en
la Asamblea Nacional en contra de la discriminación y por los derechos de
las personas homosexuales.
La discusión de este proyecto de
ley, llamado Ley Orgánica de Igualdad de Género, representa un avance
más de su Revolución e implica la voluntad de corregir esas
desigualdades y discriminaciones que por décadas han plagado a nuestras
sociedades. Entendemos que no puede haber un pueblo con justicia y equidad
cuando algunos/as de sus integrantes sufren de discriminación ya sea por
edad, color de su piel, origen étnico, sexo u orientación
sexual.
Guardamos la esperanza de que la ley
sea finalmente aprobada en términos que garanticen el pleno disfrute de
los derechos sociales y civiles de los cuales disfruta el resto de la
población.
Saludamos de igual manera la
iniciativa del Ministerio del Poder Popular para Relaciones Exteriores de la
República Bolivariana de Venezuela, el cual a través de su Consulado
en Chicago, participó en el desfile del Orgullo Gay el pasado 28 de junio.
Este ha sido un gran gesto de solidaridad hacia un grupo en los Estados Unidos
que esta luchando por obtener los mismos derechos sociales y civiles que
ustedes en Venezuela están a punto de establecer.
Por razones como éstas, entre los
activistas que luchamos en EE.UU. en contra de todo tipo de discriminación
y por la implementación de los principios de igualdad y respeto por los
derechos humanos, existe gran simpatía y apoyo al proceso bolivariano
venezolano, porque es considerado parte de la misma lucha por la
liberación de las comunidades y minorías históricamente
oprimidas.

Esteemed Minister,
The Directors of the International Action Center, located in New
York City and founded by former Attorney General of the United States Ramsey
Clark, wish to express our congratulations to the Government of Venezuela on
the recent proposal in the National Assembly against discrimination and for the
rights for lesbian and gay people.
The discussion of this legal project, named Organic Law of
Gender Equality, represents a further advance of your Revolution and
demonstrates the wish to correct these inequalities and discriminations which
for decades have plagued our societies. We understand that it is not possible
to have a society with justice and equality when some of the members of that
society suffer discrimination, whether it is because of their age, the color of
their skin, their ethnic origins, their sex or their sexual orientation.
We hope for the final passage of this law guaranteeing the full
benefits of the social and civil rights that is enjoyed by the rest of the
population.
In the same way, we salute the initiative of the Ministry
of the Peoples Power for Exterior Relations of the Bolivarian Republic of
Venezuela, which through its Consulate in Chicago, participated in the Chicago
Gay Pride parade this past June 28. This was a great gesture of solidarity with
a group in the United States which has been struggling to obtain the same
social and civil rights which you are about to establish in Venezuela.
For reasons like these, among activists who are struggling here
in the United States against all types of discrimination and for implementation
of the principles of equality and respect for human rights, there is great
sympathy and support for Venezuela's Bolivarian process. It is considered
part of the same struggle for liberation of the communities and groups which
have historically been oppressed.
