Recognize Mr. Nicolas Maduro Moros as the Constitutional President of Venezuela,

Cease and desist from supporting the Venezuelan right wing campaign to destabilize the country.

It is with extreme concern that I see how the U.S. government is again continuing its historic role of sowing instability in other countries while hiding behind a false "concern for democracy". This time it is undermining the results of the presidential elections on Sunday April 14 in Venezuela. The winner was Mr. Nicolas Maduro Moros, but the U.S. contended that these results are invalid until 100% of the votes cast are counted. This position echoes the violent and undemocratic Venezuelan right wing represented by the losing candidate, Henrique Capriles.

The Venezuelan right wing, refusing to recognize the election results, has unleashed a murderous campaign to cause destabilization in the country. They have unleashed violence which has left eight murdered and 71 wounded. They have set fire to 9 health centers and several offices of the PSUV (the United Socialist Party of Venezuela), They have made threats against Chavista leaders, the president of the CNE (National Electoral Council) Tibisay Lucena, and against Cuban doctors serving in Venezuela. They have also carried out many acts of sabotage, including a dirty media campaign, fires set to affect the electrical system, actions to cause food shortages, internet attacks and much more.

I do not accept the arguments based on lies that the Capriles sector has expressed and that the corporate media in Venezuela and the U.S. have spread so vilely. The narrow vote margin is not a valid excuse for such violent acts. The United States has frequently recognized illegitimate regimes like the one by Porfirio Lobo in Honduras in 2009 after a coup, those in Mexico on several occasions when the votes for candidates of the people were usurped by the right wing candidates, The last example was the buying of votes by Peña Nieto that beat the candidate of left, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador; In 2011, the Haitian majority Lavalas Party was not even allowed to nominate a candidate. These are just a few of many examples of "elections" quickly recognized by the U.S. government.

If we talk about small vote margins, we must remember that the U.S. government recognized the following who won by a narrow margin: Felipe Calderon in Mexico won in 2006 with a margin of 0.56%, José María Aznar in Spain won in 1996 with 1%. In the United States, George W. Bush in 2000 received fewer votes than his opponent, yet won the presidency and Barack Obama won in 2012 with 51% of all votes cast.

The Venezuelan voting system is one of the most sophisticated and foolproof worldwide. It has been endorsed by many prestigious organizations, including the Carter Center in the U.S..

On April 17th, Secretary of State Mr. John Kerry said during his testimony before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives: "Latin America is our backyard." No, sir. The countries of Latin America ARE NOT THE BACKYARD OF THE U.S., THEY ARE ITS SOVEREIGN NEIGHBORS.

Therefore, I demand that the U.S. government:

  • Recognize Mr. Nicolas Maduro Moros as the Constitutional President of Venezuela,
  • Cease and desist from supporting the Venezuelan right wing campaign to destabilize the country.
  • Condemn the above crimes perpetrated by the Venezuelan right wing.
  • Cease economic aid and assistance to NGOs and groups involved in destabilization campaigns under the tutelage of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the CIA, the U.S. Embassy and all U.S. entities that have this purpose.
Sincerely,
(Your signature will be appended here based on the contact information you enter in the form above)

No señor, América Latina NO ES NUESTRO PATIO TRASERO, SON NUESTROS VECINOS CON SOBERANÍA.

Sinceramente,
