International Action Center statement on the murder of Troy Davis
The International Action Center strongly condemns the
state-sanctioned murder of inmate, Troy Davis, by the racist state of Georgia
Sept. 21 at 11:08 p.m. Davis maintained his innocence while strapped to a
gurney in the 1989 killing of an off-duty police officer for which he was
sentenced to death row in 1991. Hundreds of his supporters, the majority of
them African American, stood vigil for many hours outside of the death house in
Jackson, Georgia despite the armed presence of many police and correctional
officers. Troy Davis did not die in vain. The legal lynching of this heroic
42-year-old African American will serve as a strong inspiration in the struggle
to abolish the death penalty and all forms of racist injustice. Troy Davis
