Texas Gov. George Bush has set June 22 as the date for the execution of Shaka Sankofa (Gary Graham). Sankofa was convicted as a 17-year-old of murder. There were no fingerprints, no ballistic information, and seven of the eight eye-witnesses did not identify Sankofa. Only one witness, who originally did not pick Sankofa from a photo line-up, eventually testified that he was the killer. Her original description of the killer did not match the height or weight of Sankofa! She was over 30 feet away and only saw the killer for one or two seconds. One eyewitness, who stood next to the killer, emphatically states that Sankofa is the wrong man.

Sankofa's trial lawyer thought he was guilty. He conducted no pretrial investigation! Only much later a new legal team found witnesses who passed polygraph tests swearing that Sankofa was miles away from the scene, with them on the night of the murder.

Yet this new evidence has never been heard in a court of law! Texas law prevents new evidence from being introduced unless soon after a conviction. Federal courts refused to give Sankofa a new trial based on Clinton's "Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996."

Since George Bush took over as Governor of Texas 128 prisoners have been executed, more than any other state in the nation. Dozens more are to be killed in coming months.
