Rubin "Hurricane" Carter in Washington D.C. to talk about Innocence, the Death Penalty and the Impending Execution of Texas Death Row Inmate Gary Graham on June 22nd, 2000

WHAT: On this Friday, May 26th at Union Temple Baptist Church, Pastor Willie Wilson will host an event featuring Rubin"Hurricane"Carter speaking on the death penalty and innocent people. Mr. Carter's story was told by Hollywood in a movie that was released at the end of last year entitled " The Hurricane" that featured Denzel Washington.

The innocent person that Mr. Carter will be highlighting during his talk is talk is Texas death row inmate Gary Graham who has a pending execution date set for June 22nd. Mr. Graham's case raises compelling claims of innocence. The question that Mr. Carter will be raising is Could Gary Graham be the innocent person that Governor George w. Bush, Jr. doesn't exist on Texas death row?

There will be two artistic presentations at the event:

A very special Unveiling of two portraits painted be renown artist from Atlanta, Georgia (John Swindle) and Beaumont, Texas (John Cobb) that were commissioned by businessman "Ricky" Jason of Plight Entertainment.

The release of a CD entitiled " Let the Evidence Be Heard" that features two PSA's from Gary Graham live from death row in Texas.

WHO: The list speakers include Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, Shabaka Walalingri-who served over a decade on Florida's death row and was then released when evidence of his innocence came to light, Ajamu Baraka--- Southern Regional Director of Amnesty International in Atlanta, GA, Sabrina Green-International Concerned Family & Friends of Mumia Abu-Jamal. Invited guest activist Dick Gregory and civil rights leader, Reverend Dr. Walter E. Fauntroy.

The event is being sponsored by the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty in conjunction with Amnesty International, International Concerned Family & Friends of Mumia Abu-Jamal, the Gary Graham (Shaka Sankofa) Coalition for Justice and the National conference of Black Lawyers-DC Chapter.
