RUSSIAN UNIONISTS BACK MUMIA ABU-JAMAL
The following is a statement issued by members of the anti-capitalist labor union Zaschita Trud (Defense of Labor) at the metal works in Samara, Russia. Similar resolutions have been adopted by Zaschita locals across the country. Zaschita is in the forefront of the strike movement against privatization, plant shutdowns, and the suffering Wall Street and the International Monetary Fund are inflicting on the people of the former Soviet Union.
Workers in Russia stand in solidarity with Mumia Abu-Jamal!
We, the metal workers, engineers, members of the trade union "Defense of Labor" of the Samara Metallurgical Company (SAMECO) express our solidarity with the brave fighter for the rights of the workers and oppressed people, Mumia Abu-Jamal, and the international campaign launched to save his life. We also express our solidarity with the participants in the rallies that took place April 24 and July 4.
We firmly oppose the case fabricated against him and demand that the Supreme Court of the USA should revise it and take the fair decision.
We won’t stop fighting until Mumia Abu-Jamal is set free. We will do our best to involve as many Russian and foreign progressive organizations as possible.
