NEW YORK CITY MEETING TO DICUSS JUDGE YOHN'S DECISION
On December 18th, Federal District Court Judge William Yohn set aside the sentencing phase of Mumia Abu-Jamal’s original trial, where the death penalty was imposed.
YOHN HAS LET THE CONVICTION FOR FIRST-DEGREE MURDER STAND
The prosecution has already announced it will appeal Yohn’s decision & seek to reinstate the death sentence.
EVEN IF YOHN’S DECISION IS UPHELD by higher courts, the state could still sched-ule a new sentencing hearing to seek the death penalty again. Based on this ruling, even if efforts to reinstate the death sentence fail, Mumia would face the rest of his life in prison for a crime he did not commit.
