WE REMEMBER WANDA JEAN ALLEN! WE WILL FREE MUMIA!

No More Racist Anti-Gay Lynching -  Come Out against the Death Penalty

In the memory of Wanda Jean Allen, RAINBOW FLAGS FOR MUMIA IS CALLING ON ALL LESBIAN, GAY, BI AND TRANS ACTIVISTS TO JOIN 'CAMP FREE MUMIA' City Hall, PHILADELPHIA, MAY 11 - 13

On January 11, 2001, the state of Oklahoma executed Wanda Jean Allen, an African American lesbian. She was the first African American woman executed in the U.S. since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976. Many lesbian/gay/bi/trans organizations, as well as anti-death penalty forces and the Rev. Jesse Jackson rallied in support of Wanda Jean in hopes of winning a stay of execution. The fact remains that she was legally lynched by the state of Oklahoma because she was poor, Black, a lesbian and mentally disabled. We were not able to save Wanda Jean, but we can and will help to Mumia Abu-Jamal!

One big reason why the Philadelphia police targeted award-winning journalist and political activist Mumia Abu-Jamal was Mumia's defense of the MOVE organization. May 13 marks the 16th anniversary of the 1985 infamous bombing and burning of the MOVE house by the Philadelphia police. The bombing left 11 people dead including five children. On May 12 in commemoration of this anniversary, activists and supporters around the world will be marching and demonstrating to free Mumia, who has been on Pennsylvania death-row for 19 years.

George W., known previously as Gov. Death for executing more people than any other governor in history, is now President Death. He fervently endorses and enforces the death penalty.  George W. Bush represents the same racist, homophobic death machine that killed Wanda Jean Allen and that wants to kill Mumia. We must fight more than ever to stop that from happening.  It is in Wanda Jean Allen's memory that we build the LGBT contingent to "Camp Free Mumia".

Rainbow Flags for Mumia is calling on lesbian, gay, bi and trans activists to join students and activists of all ages and backgrounds as residents of CAMP FREE MUMIA in PHILADELPHIA from Friday May 11 to Sunday May 13 at City Hall.

Look for the " Remember Wanda Jean Allen/Rainbow Flags for Mumia" banners, and join our contingent in the march on May 12. Preliminary Camp Schedule: Friday, May 11: Camp opens 5:00 p.m. Evening: Giant Hip Hop Concert Saturday, May 12: March & Rally starting at 1:00 p.m. from Philadelphia City Hall (look for the Rainbow Flags for Mumia banners). Sunday, May 13: Justice for MOVE March & Rally at Clark Park

The purpose of CAMP FREE MUMIA is to draw attention to Mumia's case and to keep the pressure on the system to let our brother go. We will camp out in Philadelphia Friday, May 11 - Sunday, May 13 to let the government, the courts, the cops and the power brokers in that city know that the whole world is watching. We will live in Philly for a few days to remind the powers that be that people are prepared to do whatever is required to free Mumia.

Camp Free Mumia opens on Friday evening May 11. The camp will be open all night Friday, all day and night Saturday May 12, and into the late afternoon of Sunday May 13. The location of Camp Free Mumia is in front of City Hall.

Activities at the encampment will include guest speakers, discussion groups, workshops, music, and  major demonstrations on Saturday May 12 and Sunday May 13.  You will have a chance to meet and live with activists from many different places. Come for the two nights, or for one night, or for one day on Saturday May 12 to participate in the demonstration planned for that afternoon at City Hall.
