Nov. 1 Free Mumia protest! Spread the word! Be in Philly!

This Saturday, November 1, 2003, there will be an emergency rally and march to demand freedom for Mumia in Philadelphia initiated by International Concerned Family and Friends of Mumia Abu-Jamal. This protest will take place at 6th and Market Sts. in Center City beginning at 11am and ending around 2:30pm. The protest is taking place at this time to answer both the slanderous remarks made against Mumia by director Michael Moore and the recent denial of Mumia's legal appeal by the Pennsylvania State Supreme Court along with reminding the movement that Mumia still faces chronic health problems with his swelling feet due to poor medical treatment on death row.

International Action Center and the NY Free Mumia coalition are organizing joint transportation for this protest. If you live in the New York City region and want more information about transportation for this Saturday, call the Free Mumia coalition hotline at 212-330-8029.  For more information, go to www.mumia.org, www.freemumia.com and www.millions4mumia.org

Free Mumia, Leonard Peltier, the Cuban 5 and all political prisoners!

PLEASE DO WHATEVER YOU CAN, WHEREVER YOU ARE, TO SUPPORT
MUMIA ON NOVEMBER 1ST!

This is an official call by International Concerned Family and Friends of Mumia Abu-Jamal for all people to come in unity to Philadelphia for the fall 2003 action demanding justice for Mumia!

What: Rally and march to demand FREEDOM NOW for Mumia Abu-Jamal! An organizing meeting will follow in West Philadelphia.

When: Saturday, November 1, 2003 from 11:00am to 2:30pm. The organizing meeting will be at 3:30pm.

Where: Meet for Rally and March at the corners of 6th and Market Streets, located in Center City Philadelphia, PA. The location of the organizing meeting will be announced shortly.

Why: Mumia Abu-Jamal is a Black freedom fighter journalist known as the “voice of the voiceless” who has been unjustly incarcerated since 1981 after being accused of killing a white police officer. He was sentenced to death after a railroad trial, and only an international movement demanding justice has saved him from execution. Despite his death sentence being overturned in 2001, Mumia is still in danger of having his death sentence reinstated and continues to face harsh prison conditions which have resulted in serious concerns about his health. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court denied Mumia’s latest legal appeal on October 8, 2003. The struggle to free him, however, has always been most significant in the streets and among the people worldside, where Mumia’s struggle means liberation and freedom fromk oppression for all people, not just one man named Mumia. We are calling on everyone to unite with Mumia on November 1 and march in the streets of Philadelphia to demand justice.

The organizing meeting which will follow the rally and march will focus on splitting up work and initiating projects. Please come prepared to get down to business and volunteer your energy to work!

For those coming from out of town, please make your travel plans now. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

We look forward to seeing you on November 1st in Philadelphia to demand FREEDOM NOW for Mumia!
