FREE CHRISHAUN "CECE" MCDONALD!
DROP ALL CHARGES AGAINST LESLIE FEINBERG
Chrishaun "CeCe" McDonald is a 24-year-old African American transgender woman who was walking with a group of her friends in Minneapolis on the night of June 5th, 2011. As CeCe and her friends walked by the Schooner Tavern, a group of white bar patrons began shouting racist and transphobic slurs at them. One of the women in the group smashed her beer glass across CeCe's face. In CeCe's struggle to defend her life from this violent attack, one of her attackers died. CeCe was quickly arrested. She felt constrained to accept a plea bargain, and now is being subjected to a second hate crime at the hands of the state, in the form of a 41-month prison sentence. Self defense against a white supremecist hate crime is not a crime! CeCe McDonald must be free!
On the evening of June 4th, Leslie Feinberg -- renowned transgender activist and author of "Stone Butch Blues" and "Trans Liberation" --was arrested in solidarity with Chrishaun "CeCe" McDonald. Leslie was participating in a demonstration of hundreds of supporters outside of the court where CeCe was sentenced. Due to grafitti, Leslie was arrested and held for 36 hours and bail was set at $5,000.
Leslie's physical health is severely and seriously compromised due to advanced Lyme disease with co-infections. The police and the County Attorney have escalated a grafitti complaint into felony charges of "property damage." These vindictive felony charges are an outrageous abuse of police power. They further expose the obvious bigotry and bias of the charges against CeCe McDonald. Solidarity is not a crime. All charges against Leslie Feinberg must be dropped immediately!
