CALL FOR MAY DAY 2010 UNITY COALITION
May Day 2010 is rapidly approaching.
This year’s May Day is more important than ever as the economic and financial crisis continues to strike a heavy blow on workers from the U.S. and around the world. A recovery with no jobs is a recovery solely for the multinational corporations, who are raking in record profits as the people face increasing poverty, joblessness, homelessness, disease and death.
The escalation of war abroad in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the racist, ruthless military occupation of Haiti demand our response.
A powerful and massive united fight-back against this onslaught is urgently needed.
May Day 2010 provides us with that opportunity.
In 2006, immigrant workers rose up in record numbers shutting down their workplaces in response to a malicious attack emanating from the White House. The Sensenbrenner bill attempted to unjustly criminalize workers, especially those without documents. The massive outpouring in the spring of 2006 defeated that bill. The attacks nevertheless continue to this day, including Gestapo-like raids, separation of families, and cruel illegal detentions.
Another significant development that grew out of the 2006 massive national outpouring was the militant revival of May Day in this country. Despite the fact that May Day was born in the U.S., the independent spirit of the working class fighting for its rights in its own name for its own interests has been discouraged and substituted for the misguided belief that our goals and agenda are the same as our bosses and their political parties.
The militant stand of immigrant workers and their joining together with U.S. born workers revived May Day and its true working class fighting spirit. This spirit was reflected not only here, but in 2006 May Day actions took place around the country and worldwide.
We must continue to demonstrate the power of a movement based on the unwavering commitment to strengthen the required solidarity and unity. May Day 2010 must be the clarion call to all those who would dare to build the kind of movement capable of stopping ALL the attacks on workers and our communities. May Day 2010 must support all members of the class who are taking bold organized stands against these attacks.
Our working class youth must be supported in their rapidly developing mobilizations against school closures, the elimination of the MTA cards, tuition increases, police brutality and harassment. The issues of our children and young adults are part and parcel to the overall attacks against working families and their communities.
This year May Day must represent the solidarity and resistance of all working communities who are taking courageous stands against the massive layoffs, loss of homes, health insurance, and the deepening erosion of our rights to organize and bargain collectively for livable wages and just work conditions. This year May Day must once again demand legalization for all workers and declare that we will not allow our origin of birth to divide us from another.
This 2010 May Day must bring together all workers regardless of national origin, language, religion or race. We create the wealth and we must show the world that workers day, May Day, will be honored here in the U.S. as a day of workers’ standing up for justice & resistance.
Since 2005, Million Worker March Movement, union activists, unorganized workers, the unemployed and immigrant community organizations, committed to the independence and militant organization of workers, reaffirmed the tradition of organizing a May Day Rally & March in Union Square. 2006 gave birth to the May 1st Coalition for Workers & Immigrant rights and millions marched from Union Square to Foley Square.

CONVOCATORIA PARA UNA COALICIÓN UNIFICADA PARA EL PRIMERO DE MAYO DE 2010
El Primero de Mayo del 2010 se acerca rápidamente.
EL Primer de Mayo de este año es el Día más importante que nunca. Como la crisis económica y financiera sigue siendo un duro golpe para los trabajadores de los EE UU. Y en todo el mundo. Una recuperación sin puestos de trabajo es una recuperación únicamente para las corporaciones multinacionales, que han ganado y multiplicado sus beneficios mientras tanto las personas enfrentan aumentos de la pobreza, falta de puestos de trabajo, falta de vivienda, enfermedades y muertes
La escalada de la guerra en el extranjero, en Iraq, Afganistán, Pakistan y la despiadada ocupación racista y militar en Haití exigen de nuestra respuesta.
Se necesita con urgencia unidad y una masiva respuesta de nuevo en contra de este ataque.
El Primero de Mayo del 2010 nos brinda esa oportunidad.
En el 2006, los trabajadores inmigrantes se levantaron registrando altos números de manifestantes, cerrando sus lugares de trabajo en respuesta a un ataque malintencionado que emanaron desde la casa blanca. El proyecto de ley de Sensenbrenner intentó injustamente criminalizar a los trabajadores, especialmente a los sin documentos. La avalancha masiva en la primavera del 2006 derrotó a ese proyecto. Los ataques, sin embargo, continúan hasta el día de hoy, incluyendo incursiones análogas a la gestión de separación de familias y crueles detenciones ilegales.
Otro acontecimiento importante que surgió de la avalancha nacional masiva del 2006 fue el resurgimiento militante del primero de mayo en este país. A pesar del hecho de que Mayo Primero nació en los Estados Unidos, se habia desalentado el espíritu independiente de la clase trabajadora que lucho por sus derechos en su propio nombre, para sus propios intereses y sustituyendo por la creencia errónea de que el programa y nuestros objetivos era el mismo como el de nuestros jefes y sus partidos políticos.
La posición militante de los trabajadores inmigrantes de unirse junto con trabajadores nacidos en los Estados Unidos revivió el primero de mayo en su verdadera clase trabajadora y espíritu de lucha. Este espíritu se reflejo no sólo aquí, sino en el 2006, en las acciones de mayo que tuvieron lugar alrededor del país y en todo el mundo.
Tenemos que seguir demostrar el poder de un movimiento que se basa en el compromiso inquebrantable para fortalecer la solidaridad necesaria y la unidad. May Day 2010 debe ser el llamamiento a todos aquellos que se atrevan a construir el tipo de movimiento capaz de detener todos los ataques contra los trabajadores y nuestras comunidades. May Day 2010 debe ser compatible con todos los miembros de la clase trabajadora que están tomando acciones valientes y organizadas contra estos ataques.
Nuestros jóvenes de la clase trabajadora deben ser apoyados en su rápido desarrollo y movilizaciones contra el cierre de escuelas, la eliminación de las tarjetas MTA, aumentos de matrícula, brutalidad policial y acoso. Los problemas de nuestros niños y adultos jóvenes son parte de los ataques generales contra las familias trabajadoras y sus comunidades.
Este año el primero de mayo debe representar la solidaridad y la resistencia de todos las y los trabajadores, las comunidades que están tomando razonamientos valientes contra los despidos masivos, la pérdida de casas, seguro médico y el profundo desgaste de nuestros derechos para organizar y negociar colectivamente por salarios habitables y justas condiciones de trabajo. Este año primero de mayo debemos exigir la legalización para todos los trabajadores y hacer un juramento que no permitiremos que nuestro origen de nacimiento nos divida el uno con el otro.
Este día primero de mayo del 2010 debemos reunir a todos los trabajadores, independientemente de su nacionalidad, idioma, religión o raza. Nosotros creamos la riqueza y tenemos que demostrar al mundo que ese día de los trabajadores, el primero de mayo, se haga efectivo aquí en los Estados Unidos como un día de los trabajadores en defensa de la justicia y la resistencia.
Desde 2005, El movimiento Million Worker March Movement, activistas, sindicalistas, miembros del sindicato, trabajadores sin menbresía a un sindicato, desempleados y organiociones de la comunidad de inmigrantes comprometidos con la independencia y organización de los trabajadores, reafirmaron la tradición de organizar un día para manifestar y marchar en Unión Square. El 2006 dio a luz a la Coalición Primero de Mayo, Coalición de los trabajadore y los derechos de los inmigrantes y ese día millones marcharon del Unión Square a Foley Square.
