May 1st Coalition To Protest Wave Of Attacks Against Immigrants

Event To Welcome Mario Castellon Leiva, Who Has Been Bicycling Across The U.s. From El Salvador In Defense Of Immigrant Rights

The May 1st Coalition will hold an emergency demonstration on Friday, August 22 across the steps from ICE office on Varick Street.

The demonstration is being organized as a result of a call from LATINAS, a group of women based in Chicago which includes Emma Lozano, Flor Crisostomo and Elvira Arellano.  On Monday, August 18, the May 1st coalition organized a delegation to Shenandoah along with the Chicago coalition to join the family and friends of Luis Ramirez.

Ramirez, a Mexican immigrant was killed by a gang of racist youths. A hearing was held on the case on Monday.

This week on Staten Island, an immigrant was also a victim of a racist attack.

The demonstration on Friday, August 22 is important to protest the wave of attacks.
