ANTI-WAR DEMONSTRATIONS IN KERALA
Trivandrum, October 13, 2001:
Kerala witnessed an unprecedented protest against the unwarranted war imposed by the US imperialism and its lackeys on the people of the world in the name of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon on the 11Th of September 2001. Kerala to the last man is gradually being in the process of getting convinced that this is a war concocted for the grabbing of the oil fields of the Middle East for the sake of the imperialist powers. People have begun to speak about the audacity with which the US President threatens all countries in the world that it has the authority and right to attack any country in order to curb what it calls terrorism. Of course the people of Kerala are aware of the religious terrorism and how this terrorism developed under Laden and many others. The people of Kerala has realized that the terror movements are creations of American Imperialism and its lackeys during the Soviet days to threaten the countries seeking help from the Soviet union and to intimidate the national leaders of many countries to prevent hem from taking the side of the Socialist Block.
The Globalization has not achieved for America what it aimed through it, i.e. it could not cross the borders of all states and defrontierize the nation states of prominence. In its bid to create a global village to exterminate national cultures and natio9nal economies, America share of the loot seems meager compared with that of other countries. This is the final attempt of the US to intervene in the affairs of the other countries. It cannot be started directly and the September 11 incidents are taken advantage of by the US imperialism as a golden opportunity to extenuate its designs. Hence the war on Afghanistan.
The people of Kerala are aware of this situation. Therefore the Left Democratic forces the nation over have begun to respond bravely to the challenges posed by the US imperialism and its Indian lackey the central BJP-NDA Govt. who even without any formal request from the US went after it with the offer of help with the hope that it could perpetrate its way of fascism in the place of democracy India practices. Fascism, as every body knows, is not just communalism; the latter is a stepping-stone to the former. Fascism is war. The weakling Sangha Parivar was after an occasion to foster any kind of war in which it has a say. Through a war it could wage religio-fascist battles at home and neighboring countries. But the people ignorant of history do not know that there is no war in which anybody wins. AS King Ashoka had declared after the terrible slaughter at the notorious battlefield of Kalinga, being lacerated by the sufferings there in the battlefield, none wins a war. But for the fascists "war is to man what maternity is to woman". The BJP-NDA Govt. seems to forget the great traditions of India for peace.
President bush has time and again threatened several nations from Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Syria and many others that he would order to attack any country of his choice. The objective of the war is uncertain. It is brutal killing that takes place. If it were war to identify where Bin laden is, this continual threat would be meaningless. In a war where the objective is uncertain, the mighty could extend war to any length of time to any place in the world.
It is in this background a call was given by the Left Democratic forces of the country to hold nation-wide protest demonstrations and rallies against the US sponsored war on Afghanistan, which by all means would be spread to other countries. Kerala has responded to the call in clearly certain terms that Keralites are against war and terror.
The LDF took up a demonstration at Trivandrum, the meeting after which was inaugurated by com. E.K.Nayanar, the former chief minister of Kerala and the CPM politburo Member. At Kochi the demonstration was flagged off by com. S.Ramachandran Pillai, party Politburo Member. Rallies and demonstrations were held at Kollam, Thrissur, Pathanam Thitta, Kannur and other District head quarters of the state. The reports say that a large number of people participated in the demonstrations. In the meanwhile the Muslim organizations also hold rallies and demonstrations against war and terrorism. But every body warns the central Govt. in no uncertain terms that it should not be a party to war and that it should not drag the country to a war, which would be ruinous to our economy and our heritage.
The State Secretariat of CITU called upon all is units to hold demonstrations and public meeting s at all taluk centers on the state on October 15 to 17
