URGENT update from Houston, Texas

March 11, 2000

A friend of the Texas Death Penalty Abolition Movement has uncovered an important legal flaw in the state's planned execution of Kamau Wilkerson March 14. Activist Ward Larkin discovered that the Harris County District Clerk cannot produce a Warrant for Execution. This is a public document that is supposed to be open to review by the public. Ward believes this missing document could be the basis of a stay of execution of 31 days or more!

It is urgent that a lawyer be found this weekend to file the necessary papers and go into court Monday and Tuesday. The Abolition Movement and other supporters around the country are following up on several leads, but so far we have no commitments. If anyone can pull strings with a progressive lawyer, this is the moment!

A struggle around a revolutionary prisoner like Kamau Wilkerson could mark a turning point in the fight for a moratorium.
