Message from IAC re: Anti-FTAA protests in Quebec City: ANTI-FTAA PROTESTS TO ROCK QUEBEC CITY APRIL 20-22
5 Apr, 2001--In April 2001--one year after protests rocked the meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank in Washington-- activists from the anti-globalization movement will again rise up in protest outside a meeting of capitalist vultures.
This time it's the Summit of the Americas in Quebec City, Canada on April 20-22--a meeting of heads of state and trade ministers representing every country in the Western Hemisphere except socialist Cuba. There they will discuss the "Free Trade Area of the Americas"--a politely named plan led by U.S. banks and corporations to super-exploit the Western Hemisphere.
For more information about the Free Trade Area of the Americas, the IAC web site at www.iacenter.org . The International Action Center is organizing to take part in the demonstrations in Quebec City and all those in support.
This convergence of activists from all over Canada, the U.S. and Latin America could prove to be one of the largest demonstrations of the anti-globalization movement. Even major media in Canada is reporting that they expect the demonstrations to be as large as 40,000 people, and housing requests support this projection. Unions, student groups and progressive organizations are working feverishly to mobilize buses and buses of people. Though traveling to Quebec City will require taking time off of work and school, we highly recommend that you try to do this so you can take part in this massive outpouring of resistance.
DO YOU WANT TO GO TO QUEBEC CITY?
Thousands of people from all over Canada, the U.S. and the world will converge in Quebec City and numerous other cities, in what will be another manifestation of a worldwide anti-globalization and anti- capitalist movement.

CROSSING THE BORDER: The Mohawk territory of Akwesasne is located in both the U.S. and Canada. On April 19th, a group of Mohawks will open the bridge at Cornwall to activists wishing to go to Quebec City in a "Day of Rage" in solidarity with the Palestinian resistance. Canadian groups are supporting this action while several U.S. groups are planning to cross the border at the Mohawk reservation. The bridge is controlled by customs 364 days of the year but one day of every year Mohawk people take over the bridge to assert their sovereignty over their land and the illegitimacy of the border.
