Help reprint The Fire This Time by Ramsey Clark
Dear Friend,
As we mount a full-scale international campaign to stop the Bush administration from waging a new war against Iraq, we urge you to help us with the publication of a new edition of Ramsey Clark’s groundbreaking book The Fire This Time.
We are rushing this book to publication so that hundreds of thousands of anti-war activists can use this material, its comprehensive research unmatched by any other book on the Iraq war, as part of an emergency campaign to educate and mobilize public opinion.
This new third edition includes updated information on the deadly impact of economic sanctions on Iraqi civilians. A new introduction will analyze how the current Bush administration has opportunistically seized on the events of September 11 to prepare a premeditated act of aggression. A war dictated by naked imperial ambitions in this oil-rich region, not one to fight terrorism. This war would violate all international laws.
We are Not Doomed to Repeat History
Must the past serve only as a prologue? Must the 1991 assault on Iraq, a high tech massacre that killed more than 100,000 Iraqis, be tragically repeated even though the whole world knows that this planned invasion lacks even the slimmest credible pretext?
The answer rests with us, with people of conscience. Do we have the energy, the determination and resources to act effectively and with great urgency?
Bush Jr. and Cheney, Rumsfeld and Company are working nonstop to demoralize opponents of this planned aggression. The drumbeat of war talk by the White House team is aimed at creating an aura on inevitability about the coming conflict — world public opinion be damned. They are also seeking to divert public attention from their own complicity in corporate scandals and the economic downturn: crises could quickly result in the discrediting of the Bush government.
We Must Act Now
But the coming war can be stopped — before it starts! We need you to join us in this historic endeavor. On April 20th, more than 100,000 people in Washington and 35,000 people in San Francisco joined in the largest demonstrations in U.S. history in support of the Palestinian people. We are building on this momentum to launch a multi-faceted effort to prevent a new war against Iraq.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee held hearings on the U.S.-Iraq conflict. We were there with a statement from Ramsey Clark, providing a comprehensive alternative view on the U.S.-Iraq conflict.
We are helping to arrange meetings with members of the media, congressional representatives, and leaders of civil rights and religious organizations.
In the coming weeks and months we are planning actions in hundreds of cities across the United States — and around the world. Tens of thousands of people are signing the Pledge for Peace circulated by the A.N.S.W.E.R. (Act Now to Stop War & End Racism) coalition.
We are helping to organize community meetings and forums, rallies and demonstrations, teach-ins, and lobbying efforts at the national and local level. We are initiating a grassroots door-to-door educational campaign to bring a hard-hitting alternative anti-war message to neighborhoods in many cities. Included in the educational materials will be leaflets, brochures, videos and the new edition of The Fire This Time.
On October 26th there will be an internationally coordinated Day of Action against war and racism. Our goal is to have hundreds of cities simultaneously involved in a powerful expression of anti-war unity.
Can you help us in the emergency publication of The Fire This Time? We are including a special acknowledgment section in the book showing appreciation to those who made a contribution in this effort.

Thank you for your ongoing support. We are convinced that world public opinion stands in opposition to a new genocidal war against Iraq. In fact, the world wants sanctions ended and relations with Iraq to be fully normalized so that the Iraqi people can breathe. Our actions in the coming period can be decisive.
Join us in this historic effort.
