Continue Protest of Death Row Conditions: 3/30/98
I have learned that our calls and faxes about the hunger strike to Martin
Horn, Commissioner, Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, and Benjamin
Varner, Superintendent of SCI Greene, have caused both to disconnect or
change their fax numbers! Their offices are now saying that they are not
willing to give out the fax numbers if the communication has anything to
do with the hunger strike at SCI Greene.
We must encourage people concerned about Mumia and the others on death row
to call once again, to complain about the prison administration's failure
to resolve the main issue of the hunger strike (the prisoners' access to
their own legal materials, which were confiscated) as promised during
negotiations, and to demand the fax numbers so that letters of inquiry and
complaint can be sent. These are not private lines; they are public,
supported by tax dollars, and hence must be made available to anyone who
wishes to use them to communicate with the prison administration. Please
call and let them know that they cannnot hide!
