YUGOSLAVIA WAR MEETING AT SUNY/NEW PALTZ OCT. 22

"WHAT REALLY HAPPENED IN YUGOSLAVIA?" This is the title of a publicmeeting at the State University of New York in New Paltz Friday evening Oct. 22. (New Paltz is located in New York’s Hudson Valley midway between New York City and Albany.)

The event, which is free and starts promptly at 7 p.m. in Lecture Center 102, is being co-organized by the International Action Center (IAC) and the Mid-Hudson National People’s Campaign. Speakers include Brian Becker, a coordinator of the IAC; Pat Chin, currently on a fact-finding mission for the IAC in Yugoslavia; and Jack A. Smith, co-chair of the Mid-Hudson NPC. There will be an open microphone Q&A after the presentations.

As the U.S.-NATO war ended this summer, former Attorney General Ramsey Clark, chairperson of the IAC, initiated an Independent Commission of Inquiry to Investigate War Crimes Against the People of Yugoslavia. The inquiry was launched at a meeting of over 700 people in New York July 30. Clark personally drew up a detailed, 19-point indictment of President Clinton, Prime Minister Blair, Chancellor Schroeder and others. The SUNY meeting—along with similar meetings in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Milwaukee and other cities—will provide information to support the indictment, which will be brought against Clinton and the others on the anniversary of the bombing in March. Copies of the indictment and other material from the Independent Commission will be distributed at the SUNY event.

This meeting will provide new—occasionally startling—information that will help the audience develop a deeper perspective on the war and the danger of similar ‘humanitarian interventions’ that Washington inevitably will seek to carry out in the future.
