help with organizing expenses. There are many expenses involved in organizing
and getting the word out about December 1, including: the printing of tens
of thousands of leaflets, stickers, and posters; stage and sound equipment;
production of thousands of placards; and much more. We depend on the help of
grassroots activists to do all of this. Please consider making a donation online
today to help with these expenses.
Update on December 1
The events of the past weeks have clearly demonstrated that opposition
to the war is growing. Everywhere that President Bush travels, from
Argentina to South Korea, he is confronted with angry demonstrations
against his policies of global empire. Every poll now indicates that
the majority of the people in the U.S. are opposed to the war and
everyone now knows that Bush lied about the justifications for war.
This opposition has even reached the halls of Congress, where some
members are beginning to speak out against the war and occupation.
However, in order for this opposition to be really effective, it must
take shape as a massive movement in the streets. Politicians will not
end the war--both parties voted for the war, and even now, their only
real difference is over how to make the occupation work. Only the
people will stop the war.
Please join us on the streets on Thursday, December 1. The growing
global outrage over the war presents the antiwar movement with new
opportunities to build a truly massive movement against the war.
December 1, the 50th Anniversary of Rosa Park's arrest, presents an
important step forward to build that movement. We believe that the best
way to honor Rosa Parks on this anniversary is to take action, to
directly challenge poverty, racism, and war. This day affords us an
opportunity to link the struggle against the war with the struggles of
poor and oppressed people in the U.S. and everywhere.
The tragic loss of life resulting from the government's racism and
criminal neglect in the wake of Hurricane Katrina demonstrates that it
is now more important than ever to build such a movement.
Across the U.S., activists are organizing marches, rallies, walkouts,
vigils, and other actions. For more information, to download local
leaflets, or to get involved, go to RosaParksDay.org.
