HUNGARY A demonstration against the occupation of Iraq and for the Peace, as well as a conference against the poverty in Hungary and in the former socialist countries of Eastern Europe will take place on 20th of March in Budapest. In the frame of the first a torchlight sign of Peace will be formed by people of civil society on the Square of Heroes of Budapest. As you can know, at the end of 2004 Hungary has withdrawn its troops from Iraq for decision of the National Assembly. Hungarian ruling coalition of socialists and free democrats want to send 150 soldiers to Iraq in June to satisfy the request of Bush administration. (The governmental decision would be taken independently of the parliament.) The conference against poverty will be organized as part of the campaign of the World Social Forum, with the participation of Hungarian scientists, experts, sociologists and representatives of the civil movements. There are about 3 millions of people in Hungary living below the social minimum, 1 million of them living in extreme poverty by 1-2 dollars per day. The population of the country is of 10 millions.
