As people across the region prepare of a major antiwar protest in New York on Saturday March 19th, this Wednesday, City Council Member Charles Barron will announce that he has introduced a resolution in to the City Council, that ask the council to support the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, and to oppose the spending of more funds on the war that could be used to close budget deficits in cities across the country.
Councilmember Barron will be joined Wednesday on the steps of city hall by labor, community and antiwar leaders from across the city including former U.S. attorney general Ramsey Clark, and attorney Lynne Stewart, and many others.
Members of The “Troops Out Now Coalition” the sponsors of a major antiwar rally in Central Park on March 19, which is the 2nd anniversary of the start of the war against Iraq will be at the press conference to talk about their public appeal to Mayor Bloomberg to lift an arbitrary ban that the police have imposed on protest marches down 5th Ave. After Rallying in central park’s East Meadow, thousands of protesters want to march down 5th Ave. to the Mayor’s private residence, a town house, on 79th street between 5th and Madison Ave but have thus far been denied a march permit (a copy of a public letter to Mayor Bloomberg concerning this matter is attached)
