Boston, May 8: No to Racism, Anti-Semitism, Zionism, Sexism and Anti-LGBT Bigotry!!
DEMONSTRATE AGAINST THE NAZIS 11:30 AM, SUNDAY, MAY 8 AT THE BOSTON HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL
At 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 8, 2005, community groups, anti-racist, labor and anti-war activists including, Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner; International Action Center; Women's Fightback Network; Stonewall Warriors; Najah Abdullah, Bromley Heath Rank and File Committee, Local 3 SEIU/Firemen and Oilers*; Steve Gillis, Pres. USWA L. 8751 - Boston School Bus Drivers*; MLK, Jr. Bolivarian Circle; New England Human Rights Organization for Haiti; F.I.S.T. (Fight Imperialism-Stand Together); Rachel Nasca, Harvard Univ. AFSCME L. 3650*; Workers World Party, converge at the Holocaust Memorial in Congress Park, Boston to counter the planned protest there by the neo-nazi organization "White Revolution." We will clearly demonstrate that these racist, anti-Semitic, anti-LGBT and anti-union terrorist thugs do not have the right to come into Boston or anywhere else in order to spread their message of violence and hatred.
It is no secret that they are coming to Boston at a time when the racist, anti-desegregation forces are once again raising their ugly heads in yet another attempt to resegregate the Boston public school system and when the religious right are trying to overturn the historic victory by the LGBT community for equal marriage rights. Nor should it be a surprise that they are coming to Boston area at a time of increased police brutality such as the case involving a vicious assault by the Medford police against 5 youth of color from Somerville. Bush, Congress, Romney and Menino have created a climate of war, racism and hatred that promotes these fascist groups.
We understand all to well that white supremacist groups such as the nazis and the klan exist in order to try and exploit the frustrations of those who have been impacted the most during times of economic crisis and high unemployment by pitting white workers against Africa-American, Latin@, Asian and immigrant workers; by whipping up anti-Semitism; attacking the rights of women and the LGBT community including equal marriage rights. In short these white supremacist and anti-Semitic organizations act as the shock troops for the wealthy and big business by trying to create artificial divisions among those who are natural allies. Corporate America and the Bush white house takes advantage of these divisions in order to drive down wages and benefits while the federal and state governments go on the offensive by slashing much needed social programs such as Housing, education, healthcare, etc. in order to feed the Pentagon's insatiable appetite and to pay for an increasingly unpopular war.
While some may feel that it is best to ignore these groups in the hopes that they will go away, history has shown that only through organizing and mobilizing the communities to fightback will we be able to successfully defeat these right-wing, fascist organizations and their supporters once and for all. We must take our lessons from the heroic resistance of the Warsaw Ghetto Rebellion and the Intifada as the way to fight back against genocide, whether nazi or zionist. Hate speech is a crime. Solicitation for a conspiracy to commit mass murder is not free speech.
The anti-racist forces in Boston have successfully fought back the Nazis and Klan whenever they have dared appear in Boston over the last several decades, mobilizing 10,000 against the Klan in 1982, and marching through South Boston to South Boston High to stop nazi Barrett of the "nationalist movement" in 1994. As organizers of those earlier protests, we call on all justice loving people to join in opposing racism, anti-Semitism, sexism, anti-gay bigotry and zionism at 11:30 on Sunday at the Holocaust Memorial. Whether they are wearing swastikas, sheets, suits or blue uniforms, they will be stopped!
