To Say NO to Four More Years of War and Repression

Activists, students, and veterans will rally in Union Sq. Saturday from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm against the ongoing war and occupation in Iraq.

On November 3, the day after the Presidential election, more than 300 youth, students, and antiwar activists flooded Union Square to express their continued opposition to the ongoing occupation of Iraq and call for “a new level of intensity in the struggle to stop the war.”

Sara Flounders, co-director of the International Action Center, said, “It is clear, now more than ever, that to stop the brutal war and occupation, we must focus on building a grass-roots movement on the streets. We will be in Union Square Saturday to kick off the next phase of resistance to the Bush agenda of endless war abroad and repression at home.”

Dustin Langley, a Navy Veteran and IAC activist, said, “The Administration is planning to step up its attacks on Iraqi civilians, trying to squash the resistance in preparation for the phony election. The Bush Administration has already unleashed a new level of violence against the Iraqi people—right now, US warplanes are bombing Fallujah, a city with nearly 500,000 people. This is the kickoff of their plan to re-occupy areas currently controlled by the Iraqi people and to install an Abu Ghraib-style occupation. The Pentagon is boasting of its plans to devastate Fallujah and more than 20 other cities before January. We must do everything within our power to stop this assault and bring the war to an end.”

“This demonstration in Union Square is just the first step in a new phase of resistance,” Langley continued. “We are building towards a national week of resistance, December 3-10, which we are calling ‘Stop the War Week.’ We are already hearing from activists and students across the country who are planning actions during the week. We have a responsibility to do everything in our power to stop the killing now.”
