March 20: Thousands to Rally in NYC on the First Anniversary of the Attack on Iraq

March 20, 2004: Bring the Troops Home Now!

Momentum is growing for the March 20 Global Day of Action. More than 1,500 endorsers have signed on to The Call to Action issued by the March 20 National Coalition to "Bring the troops home now!," "End colonial occupation from Iraq to Palestine and everywhere!," "Money for jobs, education, healthcare and housing - Not war!" and "Stop the attacks on civil rights and civil liberties!"

Thousands from all over the Northeast will gather at 12 Noon in Midtown New York City for a demonstration and march on the first anniversary of the attack on Iraq. The New York City demonstration will be the largest anti-war gathering in New York since George W. Bush proclaimed on May 1st that major combat operations had ended in Iraq. 100,000 people demonstrated on October 25th in Washington DC to demand, “Bring the Troops Home Now.” “The upcoming demonstration in the heart of midtown Manhattan will show the widespread opposition throughout NYC and the region to the Bush administration’s war and occupation of Iraq. We will be joined by thousand of unionists, military families, members of the Arab and Muslim community, and others in a massive outpouring that will demand, “Bring the Troops Home Now,” said Brian Becker of the International A.N.S.W.E.R. coalition.

In addition to the rally and march in New York, major regional demonstrations will take place in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Activists are also organizing local protests in cities and towns across the country. Volunteers across the country are handing out flyers, and putting up posters and stickers to help spread the word.

A complete list of endorsers, transportation centers, and organizing updates, are available on the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition website.
