TURKEY (source Yildizonen of Global Peace and Justice Coalition)
In Turkey, simultaneous demonstrations will take place at 1 p.m.
on March 20 in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Adana and Trabzon. No national
demo because local elections are taking place March 28.

Activists in Turkey are building for a major protest at the NATO Summit
in Istanbul on June 27-28. It will be attended by George W Bush and the
other NATO heads of state and will be referred to in the future either
as the Istanbul Summit which marked the decision to initiate NATO’s
presence in the Middle East or, alternatively, as the Summit which
failed. The Global Peace and Justice Coalition has started a campaign
against the Summit, under the general title ‘Bush, Do Not Come, We-Do-
Not-Want-You’. We expose NATO’s role as a tool of American hegemony. We
are planning to use the demonstrations on 20 March and then on Mayday to
link together the issues of the occupation of Iraq and the NATO summit.
Finally, during the Summit itself, we are planning a demonstration and a
series of other anti-NATO events. The movement in Turkey is inviting
movements in NATO member countries to demonstrate and work vigorously
against the involvement of their governments in the Summit or send
delegations to Istanbul. For more information, write to
yildizonen@hotmail.com .
