Los Angeles March 20th Rally to feature speakers and music, including Ron Kovic, Shelley Morrison (Will & Grace), Jerry Quickly, Radical Teen Cheerleaders, Jonathan Price as Laura Bush, Families of Soldiers in Iraq, Veterans, Representatives of struggles against occupation and U.S. intervention in Iraq, Palestine, Haiti, Afghanistan, Venezuela and everywhere, plus speakers from Labor, Immigrants' Rights, Religious leaders, Equal marriage rights, and others. Music by Cuahtemoc, Kerry Getz, The Believers, Hindi, Star Baby, Tamaras, and more!

Actors Martin Sheen and Tim Robbins, and Congressperson Maxine Waters will be in attendance!

Opposition to the Iraq war and occupation is global. It stunned the war-makers that the people of Spain could resist the right-wing pressure applied by the pro-Bush Aznar government and turn that government out of office just three days after violence shocked the country. This upset was a clear repudiation by the people of the government's cooperation with Bush and Blair in carrying out the invasion of Iraq. The people of Spain will be in the streets on March 20th, along with people all over the world. So must we!

Thousands of people will come together on the streets of Los Angeles this Sat. to raise our voices in protest of the occupations of Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, Haiti and everywhere! Buses and carloads are traveling to LA from Ventura, Santa Barbara, Orange County, Long Beach, San Pedro, Riverside, Palm Springs, Oxnard, Bakersfield, and many other cities in California to say no to war and racism here and abroad!

BELOW IS VITAL INFORMATION FOR PROTESTORS IN LOS ANGELES:

1) LOGISTICS FOR LA'S DEMONSTRATION

LA's fully-permitted march will assemble at Hollywood & Vine at 12 noon. There will be an opening rally with music and speakers as people gather. The march will start at 12:30 and end with a huge rally at Hollywood & Highland.

There is ample parking in the area on side streets as well as in parking lots, most of which have reduced rates on weekends. There are subway stops at both Hollywood & Vine and Hollywood & Highland. Several restaurants and coffee shops are located near the main rally site, and Porta-potties will be at both locations.

If you are coming by subway: In the past, the MTA has prevented people with sticks attached to signs from riding the Red Line to the protest. Even though this is clearly unconstitutional, we suggest that you bring your signs to the march without sticks and then come to the ANSWER table where we will have sticks of legal size and staple guns for anyone who wishes to use them.

Elderly and disabled protestors are welcome to ride on the lead truck in the march, which will have a motorized lift.

2) MARCH ROUTE

The march will wind through some of the most visible streets in LA and end up at Hollywood & Highland, one of the busiest pedestrian areas in Southern California. We will march:

West on Hollywood to Highland; South on Highland to Sunset; West on Sunset to La Brea; North on La Brea to Hollywood; East on Hollywood to the main rally point and stage on Hollywood just east of Highland in front of the Kodak Theatre.

3) HUNDREDS OF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO MAKE THE LA DEMONSTRATION A SUCCESS

Hundreds of volunteers are needed to make the March 20th demonstration in LA a resounding success. There are many ways to help out: security, staffing tables, leafleting, holding banners and signs, etc. People who can volunteer at the demonstration should check in at the ANSWER volunteers' table (on Hollywood between Vine and Argyle) at 10:00 a.m. For more information on how to volunteer, call 213-487-2368.
