Protest march TO THE US Air Base / NUCLEAR WEAPONS arsenal

AT Ramstein, Rheinland-PALATINATE, GERMANY On March 20th, the first anniversary of the beginning of the Iraq War, the peace movement will be holding demonstrations in several countries simultaneously. As part of this international day of protest, we call on you to protest with us against irresponsible policies on war and nuclear weapons.  

1.We resist a return to the bad old days of imperial wars of aggression such as the Iraq War. Such wars are strictly forbidden under international law.

2.We demand the complete restoration of the UN's authority, in order to protect peace on the basis of equality among the peoples of the world.

3.We call on everyone to remember that war cannot defeat terrorism, but can only exacerbate it. Instead, we must take every possible step to support the majority who desire peace, and to strengthen their resistance against any minorities that carry out acts of terror.

4.We protest vehemently against the refusal of countries possessing nuclear weapons to honour their obligations to disarm under the terms of the Non-Proliferation Treaty of 1970. We particularly condemn the modernisation of existing nuclear capacity amongst countries already so armed. Newer, smaller nuclear weapons lower the inhibition threshold against the use of nuclear arms.

Placing one's trust in weapons capable of destroying millions of lives means destroying humanity's faith in the possibility of ever building security for all of mankind - and of doing so by peaceful means. Security for all is the only truly reliable option.

With renewed urgency, therefore, we call for complete nuclear disarmament on all sides. We underline this desire with our

There are still 30,000 nuclear warheads stored worldwide. In Hiroshima, "Little Boy" killed around 200,000 people; today, there are an estimated 65 atomic bombs stationed in Germany alone, with a total firepower equivalent to 150 Hiroshima bombs. Ramstein is one of the places where these weapons are stored.

According to a poll carried out by the Forsa Institute, 87% of Germans desire the removal of these weapons, which constitute the very danger they are supposed to protect us against.

Together with the vast majority of people on all continents, we say:

End the complicity between war and terror! Stop the nuclear blackmail!

We demand:

The abolition of all nuclear weapons as a major step towards a world without war.

No upgrading or extension of the military airport in Ramstein!
