BUS DROP OFF, PARKING & MORE! for March 15, 2003, Emergency March on the White House
The worldwide uprising against the war has changed everything. Conventional wisdom and the predictions of pundits are out the window. The rapid growth of the worldwide anti-war movement has had a stunning effect on all governments and the existing political order. This alone explains the reversal by the New York Times of its editorial position when the paper's lead editorial came out on Sunday, March 9 under the title "Saying No to War."
Everything from the last few months should convince us that the planned war of aggression against Iraq can still be stopped. In this dynamic struggle it is the mobilization of the people -- over and over again -- which has played a fundamental role. The momentum for the upcoming March 15 demonstration is gaining momentum by the hour as people realize that their actions against war can be decisive. We are pleased to announce to that there are more than 150 cities in 40 states mobilizing for March 15.
Please read the following email for vital information for those traveling to Washington DC on Saturday.
INFORMATION FOR BUSES
BUS DROP OFF
Buses can drop off passengers on 14th St. between Independence and Constitution Ave. NW, and on Constitution Ave. between 14th and 15th Sts. This area is within 1 block of the Washington Monument grounds.
BUS PARKING AT RFK STADIUM
We are advising everyone to park at RFK Stadium. There is a virtually unlimited number of parking spaces at RFK Stadium, which is different from all other parking locations. Going to RFK will guarantee you a spot.
Buses can park at RFK stadium. The cost of parking for the day will be $30 and buses must pay when they enter the parking lot. The bus drivers should indicate that they are with the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition event. The buses can remain there for the day.
A map of RFK stadium showing the parking areas can be found at http://www.dcsportscommission.com/directions/dcsec_parking.pdf
AFTER THE DEMONSTRATION
After the demonstration, passengers should take the metro (subway) to RFK Stadium. This will reduce the confusion in finding buses that many experienced at past demonstrations.
Riding the metro will cost each person $1.10 for each person. Take the blue/orange line from the Smithsonian stop to Stadium Armory (six stops). Please consult the street map (which shows the location of subway stations) and metro map ahead of time so you are familiar with the area. Links to maps can be found below.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OTHER EVENTS IN DC THAT DAY
Please note: March 15 is also the date of the St. Patrick's Day 10K Race. This will mean that several streets east of 14th St. (the Washington Monument is west of 14th St., between 15th and 17th Sts.) will be closed down between 5:30 am and 12:30 pm. We are advising buses to come around to the south side of Washington DC on the highway rather than driving through downtown DC, as the street closures will create additional traffic.
