Organizing tools are available. We would list you and your local actions on the IAC web site as a local contact and could direct people in your area to you.

PORTLAND JOINS INTERNATIONAL PROTEST AGAINST THE WAR: On Saturday, October 27th, at 1:00 p.m. there will be a demonstration in Portland's Pioneer Courthouse Square in solidarity with anti-war actions taking place in more than 50 cities worldwide. "We are gathering to mourn the victims of terrorism and war since September 11th and to demand an immediate end to the military campaign in Afghanistan," said demonstration organizer, Emily Trinkaus. Organizers are asking people to dress in black. The protest will include a silent vigil to mourn the dead, both American and Afghani, and to draw attention to the likely deaths of millions more if this cycle of violence continues.
This demonstration is endorsed by the Portland Peaceful Response Coalition and by Arabs Building Community. For more information, please contact Emily Tinkaus at (503) 493-0664. Already the military campaign has killed hundreds of innocent Afghani men, women and children -- what the Bush administration cynically refers to as "collateral damage." Aid organizations predict that hundreds of thousands, possibly millions of people will die of cold and starvation if the military campaign continues.
Meanwhile, "Operation Enduring Freedom" has incited anti-American hatred worldwide, destabilized already politically volatile countries, and increased the likelihood of further terrorist attacks in the US. Demonstration organizers are demanding that the US and NATO immediately stop this unjust war against Afghanistan and that the international community initiate a massive relief effort to save the Afghani people. Concurrent anti-war actions are taking place in New York, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, several European cities, and in Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and the Philippines.

Flyer publicizing meeting is titled "Stop the Bombing. No More Atrocities," displays PFP&J's 4 point statement: 1. We condemn the terrorists who committed the atrocities of September 11. We're against violence and all forms of terrorism, including war. 2. We defend the rights of all people living in the United States, including those who appear Middle Eastern, to be free from harassment, racial profiling and racist violence. 3. U.S. policy in the Middle East primarily serves the interests of multinational corporations, especially the U.S.-based international oil companies. We advocate a U.S. foreign policy that's in the interest of both the American and Middle Eastern peoples. 4. At this time of crisis and war, it is crucial that we defend the Constitutional Rights and civil liberties that are fundamental to a democratic society. Sat, October 13: It is just reported that activists expect 100,000 participants for rally against war against the poor at Berlin. Centre of Berlin is closed for all vehicles. This rally is organized by the german peace movement. The widespread base organizations woke up after a long term of quietness due to illusions spread by imperialist about the end of the cold war. This is now recognized as big lie. But anger is great because THE GREENS with foreign minister Joschka Fischer these days apply a language of bellizism. Once THE GREENS were the institution of peace movement. After mysterious socalled suicide of Petra Kelly and former general Gert Bastian, symbols of peace movement, THE GREENS have transformed into most vicious warmonger party. Reinhard

Foram convidadas as seguintes: instituições/associações/publicações/colectivos: APRIL, Atlas, Base/FUT, Caldeira, Campo Aberto, "Duas Letras", Fraternizar, Gesto, Igreja Lusitana, JOC-Porto, Jornal Universitário do Porto, Livraria Utopia, LPPS, Naturocoop, Oikos, Olho Vivo, Oriente no Porto, Pontos nos ii, Quercus, TrashBaile, União Romani.
