Join the International Action Center on April 16 in Washington DC to say:
SHUT DOWN THE IMF AND WORLD BANK Fight U.S. militarism and racist repression! End the sanctions and war against Iraq, Cuba, Yugoslavia and Colombia! Stop police brutality--shut down the Prison-Industrial Complex! Free Mumia Abu-Jamal! End the racist death penalty!
Join with the International Action Center (IAC) at the mass actions to shut down the meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank in Washington, DC on April 16-17.
The International Action Center will link the struggle against the IMF, World Bank and WTO with the fight against U.S. military aggression around the world and racist repression here at home. The IMF and World Bank are first and foremost instruments of Corporate USAs drive to dominate the world and maximize its profits at the expense of the workers and oppressed peoples. The IMF and World Bank, through their "Structural Adjustment Policies" (SAP), have spread unemployment, poverty and environmental destruction worldwide for the benefit of the fewthe big capitalists.
While the IMF and World Bank are tools of big business, especially U.S. big business, their global enforcement arm is the Pentagon.
Here in the U.S., the SAP has taken the form of slashing welfare, food stamps, health care, job training and all other social programs. To enforce this kind of "structural adjustment," the police forces have been built up to unprecedented levels and given a license to kill, especially in the African American and Latino communities. At the same time, there has been a monstrous growth of the prison-industrial complex, so that today, there are more than 2 million people in prison on any given day, the highest rate of imprisonment in the world. More than 6 million people, a majority of them people of color, are in the criminal injustice system jail, probation or parole.
The IAC will be joining in the historic April 16 actions. Join us in the fight to shut down the IMF/WB and the struggle against military aggression and racist repression.
Look for the Rainbow Flags for Mumia banner in the International Action Center contingent.
The IAC will be participating in the permitted march & rally as well as the direct actions. Call for our gathering site locations or look for our signs and banners.

Shut down the IMF/WB, April 9-17!
Dear friend,
As many of you probably know, there will be a major convergence of progressive, anti-imperialist and anti-racist activists in Washington DC this April 9-16, 2000, to protest meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
The opposition to these two predatory institutions--which have wreaked such great suffering on the oppressed countries and peoples of the world for more than a half-century--comes from a wide range of organizations. The events on April 16-17 promise to be the biggest manifestation of opposition to the IMF and World Bank yet seen inside the United States.
The International Action Center will be in Washington that week. We will have an IAC affinity group and a contingent on Sunday, April 16 and Monday, April 17 that focuses on opposition to U.S. imperialism and the struggle against racism and repression within the U.S. We will also be calling a march on the Justice Department for Saturday, April 15 to say Shut down the prison-industrial complex! (Gather 3 pm at the Justice Department, 9th St. and Pennsylvania, NW.)
FOLLOWING WILL BE TWO EMAILS. PLEASE POST THEM WIDELY:
A Call for Saturday, April 15 march and rally at the Department of IN-Justice: Shut down the Prison-Industrial Complex!
A Call to join the International Action Center on April 16 and 17: Shut down the World Bank and IMF! Fight U.S. militarism and racist repression!
In Washington DC, look for our banners or call to find gathering locations. NY national office: 212-633-6646, Washington DC office: 202-588- 1205

"For globalization to work, America can't be afraid to act like the almighty superpower that it is. The hidden hand of the market will never work without a hidden fist. McDonald's cannot flourish without McDonald-Douglas, the designer of the F-15, and the hidden fist that keeps the world safe for Silicon Valley's technology is called the United States Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps." --Thomas Friedman, New York Times, March 28, 1999
