CALL FOR DEC 9TH INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACTION & WEEK OF ACTIVITY TO STOP THE DEATH PENALTY & THE EXECUTION OF MUMIA ABU-JAMAL
On December 9th anti-death penalty activists, lovers of justice and freedom and people of good conscience around the world will protest the violation of Pennsylvania death row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal's constitutional rights.
The date marks the anniversary of the night Jamal was shot, arrested, and framed for the murder of a Philadelphia Police Officer. 19 years later, this political prisoner, long time critic of police brutality, former president of the Black Journalists Association and the world's most recognized death row inmate, awaits a decision by Federal District Curt Judge William H. Yohn Jr. on his petition for a writ of habeas corpus. This is a decision on the constitutionality of Mumia's "trial" before Judge Albert Sabo, widely known as the "hanging Judge." We are demanding justice and a full hearing by the federal court. Pam Africa, coordinator of the International Concerned Family and Friends of Mumia Abu-Jamal, correctly explains "Our continuing national and international mobilizations are the strongest way to compel Federal Judge Yohn to meet his constitutional obligation to ensure justice is done in Mumia's case."
It's Five Minutes to Midnight! What we do now matters more than ever. We call on everyone to join in protest for Mumia and against the death penalty during the week beginning on Dec. 4th and culminating in an International Day of Action on Dec. 9th, in the spirit of Shaka Sankofa.
