DEADLINE - AUG 31
BECOME A MEMBER OF WBAI (99.5 FM) BY AUGUST 31st
Just think of the essential media coverage of the struggles against racism and sexual bigotry, police brutality, the war in Iraq, and to demand economic justice for Katrina survivers, Freedom for Mumia, Leonard Peltier,
Palestine, justice for LGBT people, immigrant workers etc, etc, along with all the publicity given on WBAI to
demonstrations, rallies and events have really made a difference.
This does not mean that everyone agrees with every programs on WBAI. But it is the only non-corporate radio voice in NYC. In the corporate media it is almost impossible to get coverage of ANY issue in the progressive movement BEFORE an event - UNLESS you can pay for advertising. WBAI's goal is to be a progressive voice and an organizing tool for disenfranchised communities.
Over the years, we have often helped in the long struggle to keep WBAI in the hands of progressive, consciously anti-racist programmers and station management.
We have supported and participated on the Local Station Board's slate of well known community activists known as: The JUSTICE & UNITY COALITION.
There continues to be a strong, well organized, very hostile opposition at WBAI. They are determined to change the programming and the management at WBAI. Their attacks and criticisms of WBAI have been racist and slanderous.
This is a very important reminder for all possible activists to become a member of WBAI - TODAY!!!
The deadline is Friday, AUGUST 31.
MANY people have been members in the PAST during other struggles at the station or because you may have liked a particular premium.
But you MUST RENEW your membership each year.
You MUST be a member by Friday, AUGUST 31 to be able to vote in the very important upcoming elections for the WBAI Local Station Board.
Even if you became a member last year, and your membership has yet to expire, please renew it by August 31st to ensure that you will be able to vote in this election for the JUSTICE AND UNITY COALITION of strong, committed, anti-racist activists.
