On Tuesday, February 6 at 1pm, NY City Council Member Charles Barron will be joined by antiwar activists, students, community organizers, and clergy on the steps of City Hall to announce plans to introduce a resolution into the New York City Council that calls on Congress to cut off all funding for the war in Iraq.Council member Barron said, ?I want the Council to go on the record officially calling on Senators Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer and the entire New York Congressional delegation to vote no to even one more dollar for this terrible war.?"The resolution submitted to the Senate by Senator John Warner claims to be critical of the war," Council member Barron continued. "However Warner's resolution is really a pro-war resolution because it states that the war funding should not be cut. If Congress wants to end the war, then it must vote no to Warner's resolution, and most importantly, vote no to Bush's request for more war funding.""Sometime in March, Congress will begin voting on President Bush's request for about $245 billion more to fund the war and occupation of Iraq. The resolution that I'm introducing in to the City Council is part of a national effort during February and March to step up mass pressure on Congress to carry out the mandate to end the war given to them by the voters last November."President Bush is to make his official request to Congress for approval of supplemental funds for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan on Monday February 5.Contact: Dustin Langley at 646-354-8056;
