Major NYC Antiwar March on Feb. 17 to Demand Sen. Clinton and Schumer Vote No to More Funds for WarActivists say a "nonbinding resolution" critical of the war is not enough; Congress must cut off war fundingOn Saturday February 17, 2007, antiwar activists, military families, veterans, clergy, and community organizers will assemble in Times Square at 1:00 PM, and then march to the offices of Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Charles Schumer on 3rd Ave. located near 48th Street. Sen. Clinton?s New York City offices are at 780 3rd Ave, and Senator Schumer?s office is across the street at 757 3rd Ave. The purpose of the rally is to call on both of New York?s senators to vote no to President Bush?s request for more money for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.Larry Holmes, a spokesperson for the Troops Out Now Coalition, a main sponsor of the march said, "Both senators Clinton and Schumer need to be reminded that the people voted last November to bring the troops home now, not for a non-binding resolution that promises to continue funding the war. Both of New York?s Senators voted to authorize the war, but now they must carry out the will of the people and vote to cut off funding for the war."Dustin Langley, a Navy Veteran and organizer with the Troops Out Now Coalition, said, "Senator Clinton voted for the war, and she has voted for every bill to fund the war. Now, she's trying to posture as a critic of Bush while asserting that she will vote to continue funding the war. She's playing a game of 'triangulation,' playing to the antiwar votes while continuing to support the war in order to further her campaign for the Presidency, at the expense of the lives of U.S. soldiers and Iraqi people. We are going to rally in front of her New York City office to demand that she listen to the majority of the people of New York and the U.S.? The February 17 protest in New York City will be one of many protests on what organizers call "No More Money for War Day." Protests, rallies, sit-ins, and other forms of protests will take place at Congressional offices in dozens of cities across the U.S.PRESS RELEASE
