Where: Cities across the U.S. and all over the globe, from Jakarta to Seoul, from New York to Los Angeles; in New York City, Times Square (41st & Broadway)
When: Saturday, March 18
What: Worldwide day of protest on the 3rd Anniversary of the invasion of Iraq
On Saturday, March 18, activists across the globe will take to the streets, on the third anniversary of the beginning of the war against Iraq, to demand “Troops Out Now!”
This global day of action, called by antiwar activists on every continent, will see actions in dozens of cities across the U.S. and in numerous cities worldwide, including: Istanbul, Turkey; Athens, Greece; Berlin, Germany; Reykjavik, Iceland; Caracas, Venezuela; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Baghdad, Iraq; Bangkok, Thailand; Tokyo, Japan; and in dozens of cities in the U.S., from New York City to Los Angeles.
In New York City, the main action will be a mass rally in Times Square, organized by the Troops Out Now Coalition, followed by a march to the United Nations.
“We will rally and march to demand the immediate, complete, and unconditional withdrawal of all U.S. troops and all occupying forces from Iraq,” said Larry Holmes, an Army veteran and spokesperson for the Troops Out Now Coalition. “All of the reasons that Bush gave to justify the war have been exposed as outright lies. Every day that the occupation continues just brings more violence and destruction. The troops need to come home now--not in six months or ten years, but as soon as they can be put on planes.”
"People are coming from all over the region in buses, cars, vans, and by train," continued Holmes. "There is a growing anger at the criminal occupation of Iraq, an occupation that has brought nothing but death, destruction, and torture to the people."
