NYC: Next planning meeting for an Anti-racist Unity Rally on Sept 11, will be this Wed. August 24 at 6:30pm at 55 West 17th St, 5C. NYC (between 5th & 6th Ave).

Our Unity Rally is a response to the threat of an extreme right-wing mobilization called for the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. The target of the racist forces is again the effort to build of an Islamic Prayer Space at 51 Park Place in Lower Manhattan. It is important to defend the right to build this Islamic religious center . We can not allow these well financed racist and anti-Mulim forces to be the only ones speaking to the media on this day.
At our last meeting we discussed plans for a Rally, March and Cultural Exhibition this year on SUNDAY, Sept 11. We decided to revive Emergency Mobilization Against Racism, War and Anti-Muslim Bigotry. Last year on Sept 11, in response to a campaign of hatred and fear, that was whipped up against the building of an Islamic Center more than 10,000 turned out for our Rally calling for Unity and Respect. This far outnumbered the racist mobilization.
Based on discussion at the meeting and attendees volunteering to take on distributions this week, we ordered an initial printing of 10,000 two-sided color copies of the mobilization flyer.
As we raise funds for additional flyers we will print a new version listing additional endorsers. PLEASE SEND IN YOUR GROUP’S ENDORSEMENT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, TO BE INCLUDED IN THE NEXT VERSION OF THE FLYER! (Pass the word to other groups, too!)
Since the meeting we have heard from other organizations who want to be added to the initial list of 30 Endorsing Organizations.

We expect to produce about 100,000 flyers, thousands of posters, stickers and other material for this campaign. Please let us know if you can help on this.
Pick up color flyers at the Solidarity Center, 55 West 17th St, 5C, NYC, between 5th & 6th Avenues. The Center is open daily from 1pm to 9pm.
