NYC: Sat., Nov. 10 - Bring AID 4 'Sandy' survivors to IAC
FOR HARD HIT COMMUNITIES
HURRICANE SANDY AND
CAPITALISM ARE THE PROBLEMS
SOLIDARITY IS THE ANSWER
The International Action Center along with Workers World Party,
the Baltimore Peoples Assembly and others are appealing to
supporters and the progressive movement to bring material aid
to the Solidarity Center this SAT
►NOV 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The material aid gathered will be delivered to hard hit communities
in Brooklyn, Lower Manhattan, Jersey City, Queens and elsewhere
in coordination with groups who heroically came to the forefront and provided
assistance such as CAAAV, Occupy Sandy, Peoples Power Movement, Anakbayan and
others. These groups came together faster than FEMA or the Red Cross,
organizations who have billions of the people's money but who are stymied
by bureaucracy and a lack of genuine concern for the people.
The fact that generators were immediately available for Wall Street
and for the Marathon shows the priorities of the billionaire, Stop & Frisk
King Mayor Bloomberg. That the Marathon was cancelled is only due
to people's righteous anger and should be considered a victory.
But communities in Red Hook, the Rockaways, Chinatown, Coney Island,
Hoboken and Jersey City, especially
communities of color,
are still suffering horrific neglect. No generators for the housing projects
while they were available for the Marathon smacks of racism and
anti-poor policies. They are reminiscent of the horrors of Hurricane Katrina.
Gentrification for hipsters comes next.
