Will Announce May Day Plans Tomorrow at City Hall Press Conference

Tomorrow on the steps of City Hall, leaders from the city’s major unions and immigrants’ rights groups will announce joint plans for major May Day demonstrations, in which thousands will march for workers’ rights.

The decision to hold joint activities on May Day comes amidst a national reawakening of the labor movement in the wake of massive pro-union demonstrations in Wisconsin.
 
In New York City that movement is now joining forces with the immigrant workers’ rights movement, which rose up in 2006 against the anti-immigrant Sensenbrenner-King bill and brought out hundreds of thousands of protesters on May 1 that year.

anuncian los planes del primer de mayo mañana en una rueda de prensa en la Alcaldia

Mañana en las escaleras de la Alcaldia, los líderes de los sindicatos más importantes de la ciudad y los grupos que abogan por los derechos de los inmigrantes anunciarán planes conjuntos para las principales manifestaciones del primero de mayo, en las que miles marchan por los derechos laborales.

La decisión de realizar actividades conjuntas en el Primero de Mayo llega en medio de un despertar nacional del movimiento laboral a raíz de las manifestaciones masivas a favor de los sindicatos en Wisconsin.
 
En la ciudad de Nueva York ese movimiento se está sumando fuerzas con el movimiento pro derechos de los trabajadores inmigrantes, que se levantaron en 2006 contra el proyecto de ley Sensenbrenner-King anti-inmigrantes y sacaron a cientos de miles de manifestantes el 1 de mayo de ese año.
