Anti-War, Anti-Cuts Rally: Demonstration for Jobs and Schools, Not War
Co-sponsored by the United National Antiwar Committee and Bloombergville

Then stay and sleep over for the protest at the City Council vote:
Tuesday at 12 Noon
Demonstration Against Bloomberg’s Budget Cuts
Protest Outside the City Council Vote
Assemble at Broadway and Park Place at Noon, March to the Council Meeting on
Chambers St. at 12:30
This Tuesday at 1:30 PM, the NY City Council is scheduled to vote for a
budget that cuts services, eliminates jobs and guts union contracts.
Now is the time to get into the streets – and stay there until this
budget is defeated! Bloombergville is in the homestretch on its stated mission
to build the movement to defeat the budget or stop the vote, and that movement
needs you!
The Tuesday demonstration against the budget vote is scheduled for noon –
but people will be gathering at Bloombergville all morning. The earlier you can
get there the better!
These cuts have nothing to do with any kind of “deficit.”
Billionaire Bloomberg made that clear Friday night when he said, “We
always have the money. They question is, do we need to spend it on this or
that? Or spend it now or later?”
Bloomberg is obviously choosing to spend the city’s $3 billion surplus on
“that,” and “later” – “that” being
the banks and “later” being interest payments, money banks collect
for doing nothing, and not owed to the banks until next year.
The politicians, the mayor and the media have all conspired to pass this budget
– only the people can stop them.

Bloombergville Anti-austerity Protest to confront City Council & Mayor Tuesday, June 28, at noon and 7pm
WHAT: Two protests against City Council vote on Mayor Bloomberg’s budget deal
WHERE: First protest at "Bloombergvile," Park Place and Broadway
Second protest in front of Emigrant Savings Bank, 51 Chambers St.
WHEN: First protest at noon Tuesday, June 28
Second protest 7:30 pm Tuesday, June 28
WHY: The Council vote was originally scheduled for 1:30pm, Wednesday, but shifted to Tuesday, then announced for 8pm. So protest originally scheduled for noon will proceed, but a second protest will take place from 7 pm until after the vote happens.
The Bloombergville protesters denounced the tentative budget deal late Friday night, June 24:
"While teacher layoffs were apparently avoided, more than 1,000 city jobs in health care will still be cut. Childcare programs will be de-funded. City libraries, which thousands of New Yorkers rely on for job help and computer access, will still face cutbacks. Tuition for CUNY students is set to rise continuously for years.
The Bloombergville coalition has called on all its supporters to join this protest, and make plans for continued efforts to force the Bloomberg administration to use the $3 billion+ "rainy day fund" to serve the interests of New Yorks, instead of merely serving the interests of the banks."
