EYEWITNESS VENEZUELA

SPECIAL IAC FORUM TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2002

Come hear an exciting  reportback from Jennifer Wager, IFCO/Pastors for Peace & ANSWER representative.

In August, Wager spent two weeks in Venezuela. She witnessed firsthand the revolutionary unfolding of the historic mass movement currently sweeping this nation.

This is a movement that will have profound results for not only Venezuela but all of Latin America.

Wager will have first-hand footage that includes the organizing efforts that are taking place in tens of thousands of neighborhoods throughout the country.

These efforts are being organized by the Bolivarian Circles, mass organizations that sprung up after the election of President Hugo Chavez, a progressive nationalist leader elected under an anti-IMF pro-people program.

The Bolivarian Circles are working to defend the interests of the poor and working people of Venezuela.  In April, it was this mass movement that prevented the victory of a U.S.-sponsored counterrevolution to oust President Chavez.

These organizing efforts are reminiscent of revolutionary Cuba and its Committees in Defense of the Revolution, said Wager.

The importance of the solidarity movement in this country as the US-backed counterrevolutionary forces continue to gain momentum is vital. Come hear how you can get involved.
