www.IACenter.orgOctober 9, 2006--Given the constant increase of unfriendliness and blatant hostile actions from the government of the United States towards the sovereign Republic of Venezuela and its president, Hugo Chavez, the International Action Center has initiated an online campaign on behalf of Venezuela.
After the detention by U.S. authorities of Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro in JFK Airport contrary to all diplomatic and international laws, and the U.S. media outcry against President Chavez for his speech in the United Nations calling President George W. Bush a devil, a name that represents the embodiment of evil that simply echoes the feeling of millions of people throughout the world who have been victims of Bush’s foreign policies, the United States has continued its campaign of harassment against that southern republic.
A recent White House report accuses Venezuela of not doing enough against the narcotics trade. Exposing the falsehood of this assertion in an Oct. 6 article, the Council on Hemispheric Affairs stated that the U.S. report was “an alarmingly tendentious document relying on misleading evidence and innuendo (that) is little more than a deeply politicized anti-Hugo Chavez treatise rather than a professional inventory of Venezuelan drug policy.”
Also, some days earlier, on a date suspiciously coinciding with the CARICOM’s decision to back Venezuela for the non permanent seat in the UN Security Council, rather than Guatemala as the U.S. wanted, the U.S. amended its Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative regulations in a way that will affect the tourism industry in the Caribbean.
The IAC petition, which has attracted thousands of responses worldwide, was initially signed by personalities in the United States who would like to see an end to this hostile campaign and see the hostility replaced by a normalization of relations based on respect for a sovereign Venezuela. Signatories include Ramsey Clark, Harry Belafonte, Bishop Thomas Gumbleton, James Petras, NYC Councilmember Charles Barron, actor Peter Coyote, Dr. James D. Cockcroft, National Teamsters Black Caucus Chair Chris Silvera, and many other important persons representing different segments of U.S. society.
Circulation of this petition will show that the U.S. government’s hostility to Venezuela and to President Chavez’ government is not shared by the bulk of the U.S. population. Once the petition, available at http://www.iacenter.org/venezuelacmpgn.shtml is completed, it is automatically sent to President George W. Bush, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, other cabinet members, key congressional representatives and U.S. media.

9 de octubre de 2006 -- Dado el constante aumento de evidentes acciones hostiles por parte del gobierno de los Estados Unidos hacia la república soberana de Venezuela y de su presidente, Hugo Chávez Frías, el Centro de Acción Internacional ha iniciado una campaña en línea a favor de Venezuela.
Después de la detención del Canciller venezolano Nicolás Maduro contraria a todas las leyes diplomáticas e internacionales, por autoridades de los EEUU en el aeropuerto de JFK y de la protesta de los medios estadounidenses contra el presidente Chávez por su discurso en las Naciones Unidas donde llamó al presidente Bush un “diablo”, nombre que representa la encarnación del mal lo cual simplemente refleja la impresión de millones de personas a través del mundo que han sido víctimas de las políticas extranjeras de Bush, los Estados Unidos han continuado su campaña de hostigamiento contra esa república sureña.
En un informe reciente, la Casa Blanca acusa a Venezuela de no hacer lo bastantes contra el tráfico de narcóticos. Exponiendo el carácter arbitrario de tal aseveración, en un artículo con fecha del 6 de octubre, el Concilio sobre Asuntos Hemisféricos COHA, indicó que el informe estadounidense era “un documento alarmantemente tendencioso que se basaba en evidencia engañosa e insinuaciones (que) son poco más que un tratado profundamente politizado contra Hugo Chávez- que un inventario profesional de la política venezolana sobre las drogas.”
También días antes, sospechosamente coincidiendo con la decisión del CARICOM de votar por Venezuela en vez de Guatemala como quieren los EEUU para el asiento transitorio en el Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU, las regulaciones de la Iniciativa de Viajes del Hemisferio Occidental fueron enmendadas de una manera que afectará la industria del turismo en el Caribe.
La petición que ha recolectado millares de respuestas por todo el mundo fue firmada inicialmente por personalidades en los Estados Unidos que quisieran ver un final de esta campaña hostil y en su lugar ver una normalización de las relaciones basadas en el respecto para la soberanía de los países. Algunos de los firmantes son Ramsey Clark, Harry Belafonte, el obispo Thomas Gumbleton, James Petras, el Concejal de la Ciudad de Nueva York Charles Barron, Peter Coyote, el Dr. James D. Cockcroft, el Director del Caucus Negro Nacional de los Teamsters Chris Silvera, y muchas otras importantes figuras que representan diferentes sectores de la sociedad en los EEUU.
La circulación de esta petición demostrará que la hostilidad del gobierno de los EEUU hacia Venezuela y el gobierno del Presidente Chávez no es compartida por gran parte de la población de los EEUU.
Una vez se llena la petición en la página http://www.iacenter.org/venezuelacmpgn.shtml , es enviada automáticamente al Presidente Bush, a la Secretaria de Estado Condoleezza Rice, a otros miembros de la administración, a representantes de ambas cámaras legislativas en el Congreso y a los medios de comunicación de los EEUU.
