An Exhibition titled WILLIAMSBURG BRIDGES PALESTINE

Fifty Palestinian artists with as many stories of exile and refuge. Akhal survived the massacre at the Jaffa port of 1948; Shammout survived the brutal five day march through the wilderness; Adawie, Barakat, Yahya, and many others of the second generation were born in refugee camps; Palestinian artists stubbornly create art under difficult condition. For example sculptor Sirsawi and his many students work in Ghazze (Gaza) a difficult place to survive. Some Palestinian art is made in Zionist prisons such as that of Adawie. Mansour, Anani, Tamari, Zurob, among others, live daily with closure and curfew.

Palestinian artists have survived being in prison merely for being artists, have lived through having their art confiscated because it uses red, green, black, and white pigments, many have lived in exile and have moved many times. Stories of all types underlie this amazing set of works which is unique in the history of art and mankind. It exemplifies the amazing spirit of the Palestinians in particular, but also the resiliency of human will to preserve culture under the most difficult conditions of destruction imposed by the rottenness of advanced capitalism.

A show not to be missed for its breadth and the amazing discovery awaiting each and every visitor.
