Support the Pan-Korean Petition Campaign
The Pan-Korean petition campaign demands a full and open investigation of the deaths of two Jr. High School girls, Shin Hyo Soon and Sim Mi Sun, by a U.S. armored vehicle on June 13, 2002. The petition, which has been signed by more than 1 million Korean people, also calls for a formal apology from President George W. Bush, punishment for the two U.S. army sergeants responsible for the deaths, and the closing of all U.S. military bases in south Korea.
Petition to U.S. President George W. Bush
We, the undersigned, call on you, President George W. Bush, to:
· Publicly apologize to the families of the victims and the Korean people.
· Agree to the setting up of a new investigation committee composed of families of the victims and Korean civic leaders.
· Punish the two U.S. army sergeants and their superiors who are responsible for the deaths of the two girls.
· Close down Camp House, the Yang Ju U.S. military base where the incident took place.
· Order USFSK [US Forces in South Korea] to make immediate reparation to the victims’ families.
· Tell USFSK to give up the jurisdiction in this case and to revise the unfair SOFA [Status of Forces Agreement]
