A presentation of Nodutdol for Korean Community Development.

New videos from the South Korean movement will be shown in a provocative program that will present both the fearful and exciting changes that are taking place there right now.

Since the IMF crisis, people have been struggling against neo-liberal economic policies that have thrown thousands out of work, decimated unions, and setback what had been a blossoming labor movement.

But at the same time, worker organizing has made significant progress, in part through the strategic and ingenious use of alternative media - both video and the internet.

Activist, Myoung-joon Kim, will present new media coming out of the South Korean labor movement, and talk about the innovative ways workers and media activists are using media and technology for new social change. He will also talk about workers organizing for national unification, a new political party, and against the presence of US troops in Korea!

Join us for a fascinating event that will look at the current South Korean labor situation - from the struggles of "part-time" or "day-labor" workers to the organizing efforts of disabled workers and immigrant workers, and a discussion of the role media activism has played in the larger movement for democracy and self-determination.

Video clips being presented are productions of both independent videomakers and worker video collectives.

About the speaker:

Myoung-joon Kim is a member of Labor News Production (LNP), a progressive Media production group in south Korea. Through LNP, Kim produces documentaries and educational videos on the labor movement, leads training workshops in media production and hosts the annual Seoul International Labor Film Festival. He is also in charge of Korea's first public access media center, MediACT which provides low cost training and facilities for public access and independent film and video. A member of PRISM, one of the main organizational advocates for public access, media democracy and video activism in Korea, Kim also serves on the boards of several progressive internet and media groups in Korea.
