Panelists will discuss the January 30 Iraqi election—an election being held under occupation, supervised by Ambassador John Negroponte, was closely tied to Central American death squad operations during the Reagan Administration. Speakers will expose the role of U.S. organizations like the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) and the International Republican Institute (IRI), both of which work closely with the National Endowment for Democracy and the U.S. Agency for International Development, long used by the U.S. government to influence elections and install compliant regimes.

“The phony elections will not silence the resistance in Iraq,” said Larry Holmes of the Troops Out Now Coalition. “The phony transfer of power didn’t fool anyone, and neither will an election held at gunpoint. The Iraqi people have already spoken—every poll indicates that they want the occupation troops to leave now. This is the only solution—a complete, immediate, and unconditional withdrawal of all U.S. troops.”
