Brooklyn Says Money for Jobs, Not for War on Iraq: Bedford-Stuyvesant Peace Walk and Rally-- Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002
Protestors first gathered for a spirited picket line at Restoration Plaza located in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York.
After a march through the mostly African-American and Caribbean community, they rallied at the First AME Zion Church. Speakers included Aisha al-Adawiya of Women of Islam; Portia Waldon of Buddhists for Peace; Ulysses Kilgore III, community activist; Larry Holmes of International A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition; and others.
Drummers and dancers from Africa's Ivory Coast provided cultural entertainment as well as percussionist Meshullum.
The Bedford-Stuyvesant Coalition for Peace organized the Peace Walk and Rally, which set an historical precedent for the neighborhood. For more info call (718) 907-0578.
