The ANSWER Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism), is calling for anti-war forces around the country to come out for emergency demonstrations on May 1st.

In New York City, activists, labor leaders, clergy, veterans and others will gather at 12 noon, at the Times Square Armed Forces Recruiting Center at 43rd St. and Broadway. After assembling at Times Square, they will march to join the disarmament rally in Bryant Park.

Larry Holmes, organizer with the ANSWER coalition, said, “All of us are aware of the U.S. occupation force’s murderous and illegal assault on the Iraqi city of Fallujah, along with their intensification of their war against Iraqi people in Baghdad, Najif, and in every part of Iraq. During the month of April, more than 120 U.S. soldiers have died and over 1000 have been wounded. We may never know the true number of Iraqis killed over the past month but it is most certainly in the thousands. The question is: What is the anti-war movement doing right now to show its outrage over these events, and to once again rally the public around our strong opposition to the ongoing war and occupation?”

Holmes continued, “We will be marching to demand an end to the siege of Fallujah and to bring all the troops home now. We will be calling for money to be spent on jobs, education, and healthcare, not for war and occupation. We will be standing in solidarity with GI resistance and in opposition to the draft.”

Dustin Langley, a Navy Veteran and volunteer with ANSWER, said, “From Iraq to Haiti, to Palestine, and we could go on and on, resistance to the empire is at a fever pitch. We must act quickly to make sure that opposition and resistance is visible on the streets.”

“We will be on the streets of New York Saturday, and in cities all over the country,” he continued, “to say ‘Bring the Troops Home Now!’ What is going on right now in Iraq is a crime. The only solution is to end the criminal occupation of Iraq.”
