1) An IAC delegation of over 25 people that we have organized will be participating in the upcoming Plan Colombia Challenge solidarity delegation to Bogotá. This is a tremendous accomplishment given all the demands of the anti-war movement at this time.

2) Over 30 people from across the United States will attend a public tribunal in Bogotá organized by SINALTRAINAL, the food and bottling workers union in Colombia on Dec. 4. The tribunal will bring attention to the human rights abuses against unionists perpetrated by paramilitaries.

3) On Dec. 5, SINALTRAINAL will sponsor a protest at the Coca Cola plant in Bogotá The U.S. delegation will get the exciting opportunity to participate in that demonstration. Later we will participate in an International, Transnational and Human Rights Forum organized by different unions. International solidarity delegations from across the Americas will also attend.

YOU CAN TAKE PART IN THIS HISTORIC TRIP BY DONATING FOR COMPUTERS TO HELP COKE WORKERS. HELP SAVE A LIFE

As part of the solidarity delegation we have two campaigns supporters can help contribute to.

COMPUTERS FOR COKE CAMPAIGN

In the last two weeks before we leave for Bogotá, please help us raise money for the Computers for Coke Workers campaign. Sinaltrainal suggests that one way people can support their work is by donating computers to the organization. Union organizing in Colombia is a dangerous task and this national union needs our support in every way possible. Please consider donating money or organizing a small fundraiser to help this effort.

DONATE TOYS FOR COLOMBIAN CHILDREN

The second campaign we are working on is Toy Donations for Colombian children. A group of high-school students here in the U.S. came up with the idea of collecting toys to bring to Colombian children. We will bring these toys to children living in the Cuidad Bolivar, a poor, overcrowded district in Bogotá.

From Baltimore: Support Colombian Trade Unionists--Stop the Murders by Death Squads

Dear Friend,

I am urging your support for an important project. I will be traveling on December 4, 2002, with 24 other people in the United States to attend an important "Solidarity Conference" called by SINATRAINAL, the food and beverage workers of Colombia who also represent Coca-cola workers.

There has been a horrific escalation of human rights abuses in Colombia.

Four out of every five trade unionists murdered in the world are from Colombia. 105 union organizers have already been killed this year. Repression is growing.

In the United States, many of us who are trade unionists have faced arrests and court injunctions. But in Colombia, you risk your life or the lives of your family members!

In U.S. law courts, SINATRAINAL, the United Steelworkers of America, and the International Labor Rights Fund have brought a suit that charges Coca-cola with complicity in the assassination of union leader Isidro Sequndo Gil. (If you would like additional facts on this case please email me at apcbaltimore@pipeline.com ).

Your help is needed.

We desperately need donations to help purchase computers for SINALTRAINAL. Checks can be made out to International Action Center (earmarked Colombia Challenge) and mailed to Sharon Ceci, APC, 426 E. 31st Street, Baltimore, Md. 21218.

The participation of the delegation from the United States will be very important. The Colombian government is preparing to receive $2 billion dollars in aid from the Bush administration. Every message of solidarity and the delegation itself will be a blow against repression and a reassurance to the workers of Colombia that the people of this country are becoming aware of what is taking place.

Please draft resolutions of support so that we can deliver these to the unions and other community groups.

Along with attending the international union conference, we will be delivering toys which were collected by a group of high school students in New York City to the children of Cuidad Bolivar, one of the poorest districts in Bogata.

When I return on December 9th, I will be asking to report back to as many groups, unions and individuals as possible so that we can share with everyone all that we have learned.

In solidarity, Sharon Ceci
