NO U.S. INTERVENTION IN COLOMBIA! Stop the U.S. war against the Colombian people! No more Vietnam wars! Demonstration
Demonstrate TUESDAY, OCTOBER 12, 5 pm
Colombian Mission 140 E. 57th St., NYC
The United States government is at war with the Colombian people. Colombia is now the third largest recipient of U.S. military aid in the world. Despite President Andres Pastranas peaceful claims, the Pentagon is pushing for an all- out offensive against the workers, farmers, Indigenous people, students and other people of Colombia.
In a dangerous new escalation, the Pentagon is considering a vast increase in military aid. Gen. Barry McCaffrey is calling for $1.5 billion in aid to the Colombian government, primarily militaryon top of the $290 million it received this year. U.S. Special Forces are already on the ground training counterinsurgency battalions. White House diplomats are preparing the grounds for a "regional intervention force."
This military aid is disguised as part of the "war on drugs." But Colombias biggest drug traffickersthe big landlords, the paramilitary death squads and their allies in the military high commandand the U.S. banks that profit from the drug trade are the ones benefiting from the huge infusion of U.S. cash and hardware.
The people of the United States have nothing to gain by being drawn in to the U.S. and President Pastranas war against Colombias working people. The billions of dollars sent to the death squad regime in Bogota could be used in New York City for jobs, housing, drug treatment, or health care.
Popular organizations in Colombia have issued a call for a day of solidarity with the Colombian people and against intervention on October 12. Now is the time to act!
The New York City protest was initiated by the International Action Center.
